I. What’s it about?
The family portal of Deutsche Lufthansa AG, Von-Gablenz-Strasse 2–6, 50679 Cologne (hereinafter referred to as “Lufthansa”) offers its users a wealth of current information and services that can be used free of charge. The Lufthansa family portal can be used without having to register.
- This is a service voluntarily offered by Lufthansa.
- Lufthansa reserves the right to terminate the service. There is no entitlement for the service to be maintained.
Notwithstanding this, Lufthansa tries where possible to maintain the availability of the Lufthansa family portal seven days a week, while taking into consideration any maintenance and repair work that may need to be carried out. However, Lufthansa does not undertake to ensure provision of the voluntary service at any time and without interruption.
- The service offered by Lufthansa is not a data backup service, and therefore does not include an offer for (free) storage of data of any kind (texts, images, videos, etc.). In particular, Lufthansa does not undertake to make backup copies of contributions.
II. Who is the offer aimed at?
The Lufthansa family portal is a platform that is free of charge for the user. It can be accessed via https://family.lh.com.
The portal is targeted at users who want to inform themselves online via the platform about flying and traveling, and who also want to be interactive by posting their own contributions, for example texts and photos in the relevant sections.
III. General rules
For the benefit of all, certain rules are set out in the form of a code of conduct, and this applies to all users.
This code of conduct applies to the use of the Lufthansa family portal and the utilization of the services offered there.
- The Lufthansa family portal is aimed at private users. Commercial use of the Lufthansa family portal is not permitted.
- In addition, Lufthansa has established rules for individual or offered services, such as participation in promotions, which must be adhered to by users. These rules apply in particular to interactive services. The ability to upload personal contributions is aimed at users who are looking to exchange information in an interactive manner and who, for example, write a travel report and upload or transmit it for this purpose. This means that any contributions that the user uploads or transmits that are not intended for this purpose are not permitted. This includes purely commercial content and chain spam letters.
- Also, users may not write, upload, or transmit any texts that infringe legal requirements and/or are grossly offensive. As well as texts, this includes, for example, images or videos
- whose content violates a legal provision;
- which infringe the rights of third parties, in particular copyrights or the general right to privacy (including the right to informational self-determination);
- containing pornographic content or that violates the provisions of regulations protecting minors;
- that have racist, defamatory, abusive, violent, or discriminatory content.
Uploading or transmitting texts with incorrect or manipulated sender or address data is not permitted.
These rules also apply to other materials such as photos that the user posts in the Lufthansa family portal either directly or via the editorial team.
If these materials are the work of the user in the sense of copyright law, then by uploading them or performing a similar action, users indicate they agree to the publication of these materials and making them available to the public on the Lufthansa family portal (including under any changed name or Web address), for example in the form of publication and public reproduction as illustrative materials or as an accompanying image to a discussion topic.
Lufthansa reserves the right to remove from the website contributions such as uploaded texts and/or images and/or videos that violate the code of conduct.
Lufthansa also retains the right to exclude users who post such content, in particular unlawful content or content that falls into the above-listed categories from the first time they post such content.
IV. What is the policy regarding publication of contributions?
The prerequisite to publication is that users may only upload texts and photos to which they own the rights. This means that texts that are shared should normally be written by the user her/himself and have taken the photos her/himself. Furthermore, any people that can be recognized in the photos should agree that images of them can be uploaded to the Lufthansa family portal.
Important: Please note that Lufthansa reserves the right to remove and delete posts. This applies in particular if third parties assert the infringement of their rights by a user’s contribution.

V. What is the situation with reference to third-party offers?
Links to other websites that are not operated by Lufthansa but by third parties can be found on the Lufthansa family portal. By clicking on these links, users are transferred from the Lufthansa family portal to the Internet site of the third party. The operators of the linked pages that appear on the Lufthansa family portal operate under their own name and on their own account. Lufthansa is not a representative for any of the respective linked third parties and does not adopt their offers as its own. As such, individual conditions may apply on the linked pages. It is the user’s responsibility to familiarize her/himself with such conditions; Lufthansa does not check such conditions, nor does Lufthansa guarantee the availability or quality of the offers of third parties.
VI. Are there other aspects to consider, for example with promotions?
For some of the services offered, such as the use of or participation in promotions, special conditions are applied by Lufthansa. Users are obligated to check the relevant information and conditions especially before using these services.
VII. Exclusion of liability
With regard to contractual and non-contractual claims against Lufthansa, Lufthansa shall be liable to the user for intentional and grossly negligent breaches of obligations that apply to Lufthansa through its offer of a voluntarily established and free service or which Lufthansa has expressly promised. For slight negligence, Lufthansa is only liable in the case of injury to life, limb, or health as well as in the case of an infringement of material contractual obligations. In the case of a slightly negligent violation of a contractual obligation, Lufthansa is only liable to the extent of damages that are typically foreseeable. Essential contractual obligations are obligations whose fulfillment enables the proper implementation of the contract in the first place and upon the fulfillment of which the contractual partner regularly relies. This does not apply in the case of liability according to German Product Liability Law. The limitation of liability in clauses 2 to 4 also applies to violation of obligations on the part of the legal representatives or agents of Lufthansa.
Symbols, trademarks, logos, texts, graphics, software, and other patentable content used by Lufthansa on this website (including sub-pages) are protected by law. Rights such as, in particular, the right of reproduction, distribution rights, exhibition rights, the right to lecture, perform, and present, the right to make available to the public, broadcasting rights, right of reproduction by image or sound medium, the right to reproduce radio broadcasts and to make them publicly available, the right of processing or alteration, or the right to use symbols, trademarks, or business names shall remain with Lufthansa. Unauthorized use is a violation of the above-mentioned legal regulations and will be legally pursued. In particular the automatic reading of the database and websites and the incorporation of content of the websites in a frame without the consent of Lufthansa is not permitted. This does not affect the user’s right to load the website into their own browser and run it as intended.
Users shall guarantee that they possess all the required licenses, rights, consents, and permissions that are required in order for Lufthansa to use each upload provided by the user for the purposes of offering and publishing it on the Lufthansa family portal.
The user and his/her parent/guardian acknowledge and agree that they alone are responsible for their media content, in particular their text contributions, photo and video content, and the publication thereof. Lufthansa neither accepts nor confirms any opinions, recommendations, or advice contained therein.

Consent for data to be processed for the purpose of the Lufthansa family portal can be revoked at any time by the user and his/her parent/guardian by sending a message to the e-mail address firstname.lastname@example.org.

German law applies exclusively. If the participant has no general place of jurisdiction in Germany, the place of jurisdiction is Frankfurt am Main in the Federal Republic of Germany. Furthermore, a claim may also be made against the participant in his/her general place of jurisdiction or in any other place in which statutory jurisdiction exists.
